A Bag of Groceries

by

My eyes immediately teared and my heart swelled.

I had a God-sighting today.  When the kids and I returned from the library this afternoon, there was a bag of groceries on my kitchen table.

You see, our financial situation has been extremely uncomfortable the past two weeks. The downstairs freezer is all but empty (we’re eating the last piece of meat for dinner tonight), the pantry has been thinned down, and the ‘fridge contains only the necessities. We are awaiting a client payment that is very slow in coming.

So, I walk in the back door and see a large bag of groceries on the table. My sister-in-law was in town today, and she stopped by to bless us.  My eyes immediately teared and my heart swelled. Wow, God blessed us.

But, God didn’t stop there.  My husband opened up the refrigerator and freezer to show me several meals that his sister brought for us. And, to top it off, she brought us a bag of fresh ground flavored coffee.

As I thought about how God used my sister-in-law and family to bless us today, I realized that God blessed me yesterday through my mom and I missed seeing it. Immediately after that thought, I realized that God has given me the gift of sunshine for the past three days (not a common winter sight in Michigan), plus a husband who’s been willing to walk with me each of those days.

I’ve had my eyes so focused on myself lately that I’ve missed seeing God standing right next to me, with his arms full of “gifts” for me.

Thank you to all who have helped me to look outside of myself so I can see God again.
