Compassionate Eyes

by Linda Lawrence

Then, I suddenly had this thought: what if Jesus was like Anne?

I had given up reading the Bible, finding it too depressing, so I had only a vague knowledge of Jesus, but I assumed He was just as impossible-to-please as was His Father.  But now I wondered: was it possible Jesus had eyes like Anne’s?  I knew so little about Him.  Was He merciful?  Would He have compassion for me?

I opened the Gospels to try reading Jesus’ words as they might sound if coming from a sympathetic, loving countenance, rather than a stern, frowning face.  Words that before seemed hard-to-please demands, now sounded like compelling invitations.  Could it be that God took on the form of the Man Jesus to show me His heart was sympathetic?  Did He care about my hopelessness and spiritual poverty?  Could God have sent Anne to show me Jesus – to show me God?

It was my Heavenly Father who was drawing me in!

Author/Bio:

Forty-some years later Linda Lawrence is still grateful to Anne for giving her a glimpse of Jesus that opened her eyes to her Heavenly Father’s compassion.
