How God Has Recently Taken Care of Me
Suddenly, God spoke to my heart with a warm peace. A light blazed to life illuminating the darkness of my thoughts.
The Lord has blessed me in countless, wonderful ways. From a loving family to a stable job, the Lord has met and exceeded my needs. Some recent events have taught me He continues to bless and protect me even when I don’t realize it.
All my life I have dealt with stomach problems. From acid reflux to what I’ve always considered to be irritable bowel syndrome, I’ve trudged and sometimes suffered through one thing or another. To complicate the problem, I also have anxiety and worry issues, so regardless of what I’ve ever been told, I’ve worried my stomach problems were signs of something horribly serious.
A few weeks ago something inside clicked, and I decided I was going to be done worrying and seek out some professional help. I called to arrange an appointment with a gastroenterologist. I expected to have to wait a couple of weeks to get in, but I was able to see the doctor that very afternoon.
After a short discussion, the doctor believed my problems to stem mostly from anxiety and acid reflux. He wanted to perform a couple of procedures to be sure nothing else was going on, so a couple of days later I was scheduled for an upper endoscopy and a flex sigmoidoscopy. The first examined my esophagus and stomach for damage from acid reflux, and the latter inspected a section of the colon.
After enduring the preparation, I went in to the exam. As I had never been subjected to anesthesia, I was understandably a bit nervous. The staff of the surgical center was comforting, and my procedures were completed quickly and easily. The upper endoscopy revealed some damage from acid reflux, but my doctor said my prescription medicine should clear that up without any difficulty.
He went on to explain that the flex sigmoidoscopy had started out routine and had been almost completed without incident. Then he said he had gone in a little further than usual, although he had no reason to do so. Upon moving further, he discovered an inflamed polyp in the colon. Polyps are common, but he said the find surprised him given my age.
