How God Speaks for Dummies
I often had longings to sing…
As I reflected on this story, the visual that came to mind was one of those yellow ‘for dummies’ books. God’s blackboard, in my case, was an overhead projector.
We had been at this particular church for about a year and loved it for the contemporary worship. I often had longings to sing with the worship team, but never acted on them. On this Sunday morning, I was having those longings again. Once again, satan was quick to interject his thoughts about how ‘they don’t need any new people, they are great the way they are’ and ‘why do you think you are good enough to be part of their worship team?’.
While the good and evil were sitting on my shoulders having this debate, God sent me his own message. Our church would do their announcements via the overhead projector during offering. ‘The worship team is looking for new members – See Allison to sign up for an audition’ is the only one I remember from that morning.
God doesn’t always literally ‘put the hand writing on the wall’ when he speaks to us, but he knows how to get His message across when we are being ‘dummies’ and not listening to His other promptings. I am so grateful for all God taught me during the three years I spent on that worship team.
