The Holy Spirit Speaks to Us

by Jerry

I saw five deer standing in my lane facing the other direction.

My Grandmother had been living with my family and I in Myrtle Beach, SC and decided she would move back to Elmira, New York our hometown. So I packed her things in my pickup truck on Saturday morning and off to New York we went. As we left I asked God to give us a safe trip. This is normally a 13 hour ride, nonstop, but with grandma each stop was 30 minutes and longer for lunch and dinner.

So we left at 9 am and got there at 2:30 am, 17 1/2 hours. Elmira is just across the Pennsylvania border, so you can imagine my relief as we crossed the New York State line. Only fifteen or twenty more minutes and we would be done with our trip. This part of the highway is in a rural area and dark as it winds through the hills of southern NY. We were coming down one of the last hills before we hit the city limits and I thanked God for giving us a safe trip home.

All of the sudden I heard someone yell in my head “YOU’RE NOT THERE YET!!!” I then said to myself “wow what was that”. I don’t hear voices in my head, ever. But I thought, it is true that we’re not there yet, so I started paying close attention to the highway. A few minutes later I saw something up the road a little. I couldn’t make out what it was but I slowed down some to see what it was. As I got up to it I saw five deer standing in my lane facing the other direction. So their eyes were not shining in the headlights as normal. I pulled up to the deer and they just stood there until I blew my horn, you should have seen them jump. Had the Holy Spirit not warned me it could have been a messy accident.

Grandma and I made the rest of our trip safely, thanks be to God. We have an amazing God who will be with you too if you just put your faith and your trust in him.

For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. (Psalm 91:11)

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
